1M vs 2012 M135i

Quote:
The following three rumored models should all come with the criteria just announced by BMW M for its new M Performance cars category -- extra power, tuned handling, and M visual enhancements.

...

From the same Dutch BMW dealer presentation in November which yielded the 381hp tri-turbo diesel M550d rumor (see above), came a report that a "M135i" F20 1 series hatchback is coming next summer. Those in attendance were reportedly told about a M135i featuring 320hp and powered by the N55 inline 6 engine.

A few months back, we spied what appears to be an M Sport 135i F20, so we wouldn't be surprised if BMW went with the "M135i" moniker for that car.
So even though no more "1M" in 2012, this is the cat in the bag? Wonder how it'll compare with 1M and 135i, looks and performance-wise.

Looks like it'll slot right inbetween the 135i and the 1M. Shocking I know.

It won't have the LSD and M3 suspension and brakes though!

Seems to me like they are just taking a 135i and slapping that PPK performance kit on it and then slapping a M badge in front of it.

Unappealing to be honest, especially since I prefer the N54 over the N55 motor anyways.

Let's not forget too, how the new generation 1-Series is going to look.

So with the "extra power, tuned handling, and M visual enhancements" from the M division, as well as having the M-designation in the model name, are these M cars?

I thought this article was in reference to the 5 door 135 only available in Europe. Did I miss where it said it was coming to America?

This will most likely be a 135is (_is) that was hinted about last year. Only BMW will call it: M135i.

Indeed Dackel, you already pointed this out ± 14 months ago:

It seems that BMW will be tweeking the N55 engine for an 320hp output (instead of 306hp) and rebadge this baby "M135i" (internally?) or "135is" (publicly?).

Hi Gang,
Ok, I am not gonna say where I got this screen shot from. I will say that in my quest for a German flash tune... I came accross this little tibit/jewel!
1M code named "Pyrat" by BMW...
Attachment 459273
It looks to me that this is confirmation that the new 1M will have 250 Kw N54engine. That is 340 HP. Engine code: N54B3OTO
What is even more interesting is the highlight text! Looks like BMW is thinking about a special US only model with 332 Kw or 451 HP! I personally think this will be the engine that ends up in the next M3. I don't think BMW will offer a 1M with this sort of HP power. But seeing it on the screen is very interesting indeed!
It also looks to be the very same 1M Engine code: N54B3OTO, which would suggest that with only a tune/SW the 1M engine will make another 100 Hp!!! Food for thought!
Also of interest (IF you look up that engine listing) is the fact that BMW will also have a 135iS model in 2012. Same HP though, at 225Kw or 306 Hp. The 135iS has engine code: N55B3OUO
And... if you keep looking up that list you can see various engines of interests.

Yes, Artemis. That was my laptop screenshot that went around the world in less than a day!! I think it was featured on every major car website within a few hours of me posting it on 1Addicts.com

It is also curious as to the high HP (332Kw = 451 PS) number of the 1M engine, which might just turn out to be the next M3 engine. ? I guess by next year we might know more. I still wonder IF BMW will really make a 3.4L V6 or V8 or I6 for the new M3/M4. ???
