Wow ... Your car is really fast :)

Thought I\'d share a little story from earlier today.

I had to drive my fiancée out to her workplace to drop something off for the IT guys before the long weekend. She had dental surgery this morning and I was not comfortable with her driving almost 40 miles in rush hour traffic so I took off around 3:30 from work, picked her up and headed to Oxford GA praying that 285 and 20 would not be bumper-to-bumper.

I shoulda prayed harder.

When we left our place, Isabella, my navi-lady indicated we would arrive at 4:50. This gave us a 10 min cushion before the IT dept packed up for the weekend. As we crawled along in Friday traffic, the ETA gradually inched up until it blinked 5:01.

Damn.

Just then I started seeing a few gaps open up in the 30 mph traffic. I made sure she was belted in, pressed the M button and gripped the wheel harder.

The 300C in front of me sped up a bit opening a gap in the middle lane. I dropped a gear to 3rd. Didn\'t quite get the rev-matching right but the engine didn\'t jump out the kidneys.

Check the mirrors. Dart in. Eyes up. Flex right foot.

OMG.

The traffic on both sides blurred as a large, soft, invisible St. Bernard sat on my chest and laid his head on my forehead.

Grab 4th. Rinse. Repeat.

Another gap opened to the left. Flick the wheel and the railroad tracks switched. No drama. Flat. Easy.

Right foot. Flex. Traffic jam gone and my speed alarm is gently chiming like an English tutor going \"Ahem\"

I look over at my Fiancée. My German fiancée who grew up driving and riding the autobahn with her speed crazy family in everything from 540is to Carerra 4S an has maxed out every single one.

\"Wow ... Your car is really fast!\"

We got to our destination at 4:58.

I love my car.

I love your story. I am afraid for your future in that such reckless driving is dangerous. That said, I love my M button and drive the same way whenever my Escort Redline tells me the road is clear. And, BG, I do not have a girlfriend. Lucky you!

Enjoyed the story as well. Made me almost want to take mine out... then I remembered the two inches of snow on the ground.

Hey now! Who said anything about "Reckless??

Also, does your wife know you're driving "Escorts" around in your 1M?

No she does not. And I would appreciate it if you NEVER tell her. I have found a way to keep my Escort hidden from view.
BTW, she speaks of you often BG. Honestly, you made a strong impression down at the PCD.
As for the "reckless" reference, didn't you imply, in your well crafted story, that you were speeding in a heavily congested area!

Someone really needs to go to a track and get their aggression out safely.

Thanks mods for deleting my post, clearly you have no issue with negligent driving nor posting same on a public forum. Perhaps we need mods for the mods!

Maybe the fact that 900+ people have already viewed this thread and only a handful have bothered commenting highlights the careless and reckless behavior being written here and people have no time for it.

PLEASE don't be another 1M casualty, more importantly, think of your girl. Next time call ahead and tell them you will be there 2 mins late and ask them to hang for you.

Thanks for everyone who enjoyed the writing and mentioned that. This was really more of an exercise in trying to describe what driving the 1M semi-aggressively, but within the legal limits can be like.

For those of you accusing me of reckless and careless driving, I'm not going to waste time trying to defend myself. You will make what judgement you like. It's a free internet (for now) and you can say what you like. Clearly none of you have issues with making assumptions based on very limited information provided in my post.

I'm not a 20 year old trying to show off to my new girl. At no point did I go faster than the fastest moving traffic and I did not weave in and out of traffic causing other people to brake or move to avoid me. If you had actually paid attention to some of the information I provided in the post, instead of getting all "hot and bothered" about my endangering everyone around me, you might have noticed that I made up a WHOLE THREE MINUTES (5:01 to 4:58) by driving a little faster.

Enjoy your cars and try not to let those sticks hurt too much down there.

Maybe I am a noob, but I figured there was some artistic license in the OP's story for our amusement, not a literal documentary.

We're cool dude.

It's the the sanctimony from people who know nothing about me that got my dander up a little bit.

Ah well ... it is the internet.
