Replacing RFT - Spare options
My 2009 128i w/sport package just about needs new tires. From the advice I've seen/gotten here, I'll probably go wtih Mich or Cont. tires. She's a daily driver.
I've had a portable cigarette lighter tire pump in the trunk since I got her just in case. I was going to get a donut spare, but think I want to get a full-size spare. The car is a commuter/dd, and I'm rarely more than 50 miles from home. My pump can handle most small leaks 'till I get home I figure. When I do travel distance, I think I want a full size spare. I shredded a tire in my last car (2004 GTO) in 250 miles from home, and had to drive home on a donut because no one had the right size tires available. I would've been alot more comfortable driving home on a full-size tire. So, here's the plan. Local and commuting--leave the spare in the garage and count on my pump to get me home if I get a slow leak. Long distance--bring the full size spare with me in case something bad happens. Sound OK? What wheels would fit a 128i? I'm pretty sure I have 262s. Can I get 3-series wheel as long as I wind up with the same outer circumference (about 24")? Thanks. |

I've got a spare 262 (front) that you can have for $100. Its got some rash but is perfect otherwise. I might be drivable from you depending on where in MD you live.

You could also buy the steel mini donut and tire kit(on the first page of that trhead!) for an e90 or e60 bmw model. Those steel wheels are heavier though and wider. Those wheels are also slightly wider at 4.5 inches. I think my alloy wheel is only 3.5 inches wide. I like it bc its so light and compact. IF you really want one I would contact Dan at United or Jason at Tischer. I am sure they will know what parts to order for you. |

Ok, let us know what your dealer says. I think you can also order a simular spare wheel from TireRack - but the wheel would be steel and slightly wider. Also the spare wheel kit from an e60 or x5(e70) would also work I believe. Both are steel wheels as well.

I thought I would give this thread a nice bump. An 1addicts today asked me about spare tire options for the 135i and I reffered him to this thread. See my post #27 on page two for the spare tire I use for my car.

^^That spare is a 17" wheel... and it should fit over the 135i front brakes just fine(but it will depend on the offset). FYI my winter wheels are 17" and and my spare tire (BMW Alloy) work just fine. |
