BMW Performance Electronic Wheel install needs a software update??

So I received my Electronic Performance wheel a few days ago and today I finally had an appointment this morning with the dealer to have it installed.
They said it would be ready by this afternoon but then a few minutes ago they called me and said that they needed to do a software update in my car in order for the new steering wheel to work properly and that they will have it ready by tomorrow.
Is this correct? Is a software update needed for the electronic steering wheel and did any of you guys do this already?
Regards!

My Version One - No software required

Had the Version One wheel installed late last summer. (Round one, no flat bottom.) Dealer installed with software "calibration" - but no new update installed....

Not sure if it matters.. But I had my wheel installed here in Stuttgart, Germany... Different dealers interpret BMW guidance differently.

Garage List
I think the guys at Auto Couture posted a DIY on their site and it didn't call for a dealer programming
