Red face Michelin Pilot Super Sports | 285 30 19

getting ready for the 2nd set of tires on the amg.

apparently michelin doesn't manufacture pilot super sports for this size 285/30ZR19

michelin does manufacture 275/30ZR19 and 295/30ZR19 though, wondering if they'll fit

shame, i'm really obsessed with the pilot super sports and really don't want to get anything else.

i guess i just have to stick with the continentals or get ps2s.

any suggestions here?

You are correct. Car tires are in 10mm increments, width always ends in 5.

Motorcycles have 10mm increments ending in zero. So a 280 would be like a big fat chopper rear motorcycle tire.

many sizes in 20" got discontinued too.
Mostly 245/30/20s and 275/30/20s, making 20" tires selection very poor.

I want the PSS in 285/30-19 as well, and was disappointed to hear that they don't exist. Ben, please push Michelin hard on availability info regarding this size.

They are currently not available and not sure if/when they will be. They released 19 different sizes on Feb 1 including fitments for BMW 135, M5 and M6, 335, z4. Here they are below:

205/45ZR17 (88Y) XL
245/45ZR17 (99Y) XL
205/40ZR18 (86Y) XL
215/40ZR18 (89Y) XL
235/50ZR18 (101Y) XL
245/35ZR18 (92Y) XL
255/30ZR19 (91Y) XL
255/40ZR19 (100Y) XL
255/45ZR19 (104Y) XL
275/40ZR19 (105Y) XL
285/40ZR19 (107Y) XL
325/30ZR19 (105Y) XL
345/30ZR19 (109Y) XL
245/45ZR20 (103Y) XL
255/40ZR20 (101Y) XL
255/45ZR20 (105Y) XL
265/30ZR20 (94Y) XL
285/35ZR20 (104Y) XL
335/30ZR20 (108Y) XL

Not sure if they are planning another roll-out of sizes but I will be sure to keep the forum posted.

Most people who have wanted the 285 have just got the 275 and have been VERY happy!

Yeah, I'm currently running 275/35 PS2s, but wanted to run a +1 for a bit less oversteer. I was hoping to upgrade to Pilot Super Sports in a few months, but will have to try for a different brand. Maybe the new Bridgestone S04s.

I don't have much knowledge on the Bridgestones, but they aren't ranked very high on the Tire Rack customer rankings... Low wet traction and low treadwear seem to be their main issue with it.

285 is a better size than 275 IMO on zcp wheels and any 10" rear wheel. I have 275 on my wheels and they are slightly stretched which I hate.

More options at 285 would be nice bc 295 may rub so that isn't an option.

Wait I didn't read that properly... Won't a +1 in the rear promote UNDERSTEER? More rubber in the back, leads to more traction in the back, thus traction leads to understeer.

Have to remember he also went with a 255/35/19 up front as well.

I am running Nitto Invos in the 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 sizes and I know they aren't the most popular tire but they have been actually pretty good. Would I like to track with them..no, but I wouldn't want to track with a Mich PSS as well. You go to the track a lot get yourself a dedicated track setup, if you just like to canyon carve than you cannot go wrong with the Invos. I found them better than the Contis, they grip very good.

I have owned Pirellis, Mich PS2s and Conti SportContact 3s and I would put the Invos between the Mich and Contis. The Pirellis were on my 997S and although they had tenacious grip, beyond 1/2 tread depth the tire noise was defeaning especially when the rear tires are right behind you and they were 305/30/19 steam rollers.

I am considering having the rear 10" ZCP wheel widened to 11" then I will run a set of ET25 10" ZCP wheels up front with a 275/30/19 and a 295/30/19 out back with the 11" wide ZCP wheels. I would be switching to Mich PSSs.

Unfortunately the 285/30/19 PSS has not been announced and there is no date on the calendar yet. You currently have to run 275/35 or 295/30 if you want to stick to PSS's. IMHO the 295/30 is too wide for a ZCP 10" rear although it does fit with some minor mods. The PSS seem to run slightly wider and more meaty than the PS2.

Optimum fitment is the 285/30/19 just like the GTS, you can fit a 295 but like tlp posted a 295 tire is really not optimum on a 10" wide wheel. PCars run 295s and they are on 11" wide wheels.

As for the front I wouldn't go wider than a 255/35/19 or a 265/30/19.
