Star Specs or PSS's ?

I'm on the fence between a set of Star Specs or PSS's for my track tires. I have a total stock (and going to stay that way for 4 years...maybe) 2012 128i w/ the M-sport pak. Mounting the tires on a set of D-force 17 x 8.5" LTW5's. Probably going with 225/45 so I don't have to run spacers or have to worry about rubbing. I plan to do 2-3 DE's per year with this wheel/tire set up. Stock wheels & tires take care of the DD duty. Any input would be appreciated.

If you are going with a dedicated track set up, why not go for a more track than street tire ??

I run 225/45/17 Hankook RS3's, square set up. they are 140 treadwear, dot, and are at the limit to stay in most street stock classes. most rules say 140 or greaterr. maybe R1's or something else

the 2 tires you mention are great and they will do alot better if you go to a track day in the rain then more track specific tires, but in all the events ive gone to ive only run in the rain once.

Star Specs are better for dry track. PSS are better for street and wet track.

I ran Star Specs on my car as Daily Driver Duty and they were good. Not sure they are good as a dedicated track tire though...Tires are a big part of taking your car to the track IMO...the better your rubber, the more potential and predictability you achieve.

I have 225/45/17 Michelin PSS on the front of my 135i. They aren't a very wide tire for their size. I think they would look stretched on the 17x8.5 rim. Star specs will probably give a bigger contact patch for the same size spec.
