Wheel and Tire insurance questionquestion
Hey guys... So I just got done with a long drive and just to get the bugs off the car went through one of those gas station car wash drive through. Normally works fine but this time I guess I was too far to one side and on the way out really scratched up the wheel pretty bad. I was wondering if the wheel and package insurance from BMW covers this.
I will post a picture up later but I'm on my phone now. Kind of upset because of how hard I work not to hit curbs an then for this to happen. Anyways thanks for your responses in advance.

Running your 1er through a carwash?
I doubt the wheel and package insurance will cover this but it's worth a try i guess.

I would NEVER take my car through an automatic car wash. Heck I would not even take my truck through one. I do use the self-serve wand washes.
I guess you can count this as one of life’s lessons. Or you could read this forum and find out that would have been a bad idea to go through an auto car wash. Good luck!

maybe the car wash's insurance will cover it. I know the carwash up the street from me has a policy of covering all damage occurred within the wash except antennas and side mirrors because they have signs to fold / remove those.
Side bar, I just got my first brand new car, the 135i, and would have a hard time taking it through an automatic car wash. |

I agree with all above, I only hand wash my car and if I go to a place I use the self serve wash to do the wheels and undercarriage.
Either way, I had actually thought the BMW warranty did include curb rash, just call your dealer |

If the tire holds air, they're not going to touch the wheel. This damage is purely cosmetic which is not covered.

So are you guys saying the BMW tire & wheel insurance for ~$1k isn't as good deal?
I have to decide by tomorrow if I want it and I was thinking no. |

When my dealer explained to me the warranty I thought it was a good deal even though I didn't go for it.. They said if you put different tires on the car and you got a flat, they would replace that tire.. with the same tire instead of the stockers. But then again, I didn't ask about cosmetic damages..
I think there are good & bad automatic car washes.. You just have to know. There are some that just seem really rough.. I go through them if it's an open bay with nothing that could scratch the wheel like those things you have to drive onto and they move you by the wheel.. The one I go to, you just drive up to the center where they tell you to stop and it auto-washes all the way around you.. I'll take my truck through any car wash though lol the huge sidewall of the tires prevents any wheel damage. |

I used to think that touchless was better than touch but after seeing two of my friends cars a Dodge Dakota R/T and a Chevy Camaro Z28 that got washed once a week have clear coat failure issues I wont chance it. Our theory was those chemicals that amazingly break down all the dirt must have slowly eaten the clear coat. I'm sure this is probably due to the over use of the car wash.

I didn't get it. Roads are fine around here and in the winter I swap on 17" snow wheels/tires anyway. You have to blow two tires before you break even at $1,000 premium. You would need to blow three before it made any financial sense. If car insurance cost twice as much as your car, would you get it?

So what does the wheel part of the wheel and tire insurance cover?
I know my dad hit a big pothole once that ruined his tire but they replaced the wheel as well... any idea why that may have been? I'm just trying to see where i stand with this. Thanks in advance.

Got it... would you know how much it would cost to have the wheel fixed by any chance or where I could have it done?
