Tire Rack Deal: Conti Extreme Contact DWS Clearance 235/35/18 $85ea - Any reviews?
Has anyone had these tires? I think they should suit my needs as a street only tire. (I have a separate track set)
For some reason this particular size was reduced alot. Just wanted to pass it along to see if anyone else would be interested. (I checked a few other sizes but the discount wasn't as great) The Conti ExtremeContact DWS is an All Weather All Season Tire. These will be my street only tires, so this tire would suit me fine. Slight improvement over my Falken 912s which cost over $800. I bought 4 18'' tires for under $400 USD ($85 USD Each + Shipping), which I think is amazing. Click this link, then Conti ExtremeContact DWS, and search for your size. Continental tires at Tire Rack Few other prices: 215/35ZR19 - $132/ea 225/35ZR19 - $162/ea Any thoughts / experience with these tires? Hopefully they don't completely suck, although for the price you can't go wrong. |

I bought a set of these in 225/255 for my Z4 3.0si Coupe. The first thousand miles almost were constant traction control interruptions. After that they seemed to finally start to stick pretty good. I had the Bridgestone runflats that come on the 135i before I got the DWS. The runflats were a stickier tire, but not quite as good in wet weather. There was a slight ride improvement over the runflats, but not the drastic change people post about usually. I do not know if I am just not as sensitive or if these particular tires are not as large of a change as some other choices may be.
If I was doing it over again I would have gotten the Continental DW instead. I also paid almost 800 for the set. Getting a set at the price you did would have made me like them more hehe. |

Have them on my Audi A6 and like them. Great for an all-season. Decent grip, great ride and work nicely in bad weather. Definitely not a performance tire even compared to the RFTs on my BMW, but still a really good tire for year round use. The only weird thing that I noticed was during the first few hundred miles they felt really spongy during cornering, like the tread or sidewall was flexing. After that short break-in period they stiffened up and were perfect.

I just bought a set for my sister's Lexus IS. For all season tires, they're up there. Rated #2 on Tire Rack, after some Bridgestones which weren't scoring much better, but were much pricier for the size we needed. We paid about 500 for 4 in her size and are very happy. They are relatively quiet and last long, too. But any car with a decent amount of torque will get these to spin pretty easily. No problem for a 200 hp Lexus, but may be a problem for some more enthusiastic drivers.

Would these fit on a stock 135 sport staggered set-up?

Continental's rim width range on that tire is 8" to 9.5" so they won't fit the OE front wheels. This tire is also 1/2" shorter than OE and has a dimished load capacity. It just barely meets the load carrying requirements of the vehicle.

I posted this before in a different thread (or 2). I bought these for my 135 and have been running them for a couple of months now with no issues (I paid $77 ea, so they've actually gone up a little). I like them better than the stock RFTs. They do fit on the stock staggered wheels. They were a headache to get on there, but I managed with my low-end tire machine, so I would think a professional shop wouldn't have a problem.
And its not 1/2" difference. It is actually 0.3" going by the measurements, and I'm not even sure it is that much in the real world because my speedometer is still the same percentage off with these than it was with the RFTs. Finally, what is this you say about the load rating? The Contis have an 86 rating, while the stock RFTs are rated 85, so it is actually a HIGHER load rating. EDIT: Here is my original post. And here are the front wheels sporting this size:

The rim width range on the tire is 8" to 9.5. It does not fit the OE front wheels, it's not up for debate.
The fact that you have installed them and are using them does not make it correct or safe. Could it be working fine for you? Sure. Could the tire come unseated on you at anytime? Yes. Will it? No one can predict that.

well, saying they don't fit is obviously incorrect. If you want to say they don't safely fit, that's something else entirely.
I never said it was correct. I'm quite confident my incorrect fitment will never give me a problem, but thanks for your concern.
