70,000 miles: A reasonable goal?
I have been reading a number of different Bimmer forums lately where the topic of reliability / longevity were addressed. Seems like people want to jump off the ship as soon as the 4 year/ 50,000 mile warranty expires. If I keep my car for 7 years I will have approximately 70,000 miles. I have been driving Bimmers for the past 9 years. First, a 2003 330xi, and now a 2008 135i, loaded.... so I haven't challenged the longevity factor. I am considering keeping this car, at least to 70,000, but , realizing there will be costs, I just don't want to fall into an economic sinkhole. Lots of red flags out there. Have any of you kept high mileage bimmers ? How did it go? Should we be concerned with this battery recall?

I had my M Coupe to 137k miles, not much to report, it was pretty bullet proof. Stay ahead of the preventative maintenance, water pumps, radiator, fuel filters, coils and plugs and it's really not a big deal.
The 1er hasn't really been that memorable, so we're unlikely to keep it much longer, but having said that, not much out there is really all that interesting either. I have no real fears of keeping it if needed though, maintenance on BMW's really isn't that bad. |

Yeah 70K miles might be a good idea.
I had an injector implosion which caused many other issues at 71K miles. |

I'm at 55K with no significant problems. I plan to keep the car as long as humanly possible, got the extended maintenance to 100K miles. The battery recall doesn't affect our cars. If you like the car, don't second guess yourself

Before your warranty runs out, spend the extra money to extend the warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles. Doing this would give you some piece of mind and more worry free drving. I've been driving bmw's since 96 and am a believer in the extended warranty program.

In general our cars are mechanically well made in terms of engine, tranny ...etc except the HPFP.. I am planning to keep my car for 6 years and I am just worried about the electronic stuff that might break..
