Good buy??
Hello Everyone
I'm looking to buy a 135i in the next few weeks and have come across a 2008 135i with premium package. It has 112,000 kms on it. The price on the car is $21,900 what do you guys think? is it worth the price? For the past 3 years I have driven a Audi A4 (not very happy) and have decided to try my hand with a BMW. What are the scheduled maintenance times for these cars? turbos, belts, etc? Should I be looking for problems? Any feedback would be great Thanks, Rob |

I'm just going to talk in terms of what's important to me -- I went for the 128i instead because I don't want to stress out about the turbos or HPFP. I realize all cars can have problems, but for me, a little more piece of mind was worth the decrease in HP. I'm coming from a Volvo, so practically anything else is faster in my world
I don't know some of the options on the car you posted, but I'm assuming it's a 6MT, those look like leather sports seats, xenon, $22k is on the lower side of good! Edit: another thing to consider -- if you like modding, you'll want the 135 vs a 128, so there's that. |

Good luck

The mileage makes me a bit nervous - at that price point it's necessary to keep a few bucks aside to fix things. The questions I'd be asking are about maintenance, how it was driven, was it romped on, have AD's been complied with, etc.
112K is a lot of miles on a car that has had complaints about maintenance and how important it is to maintain a regimen. A lot of my decision would be based on who the dealer is and what (if any) history you might be able to locate - carfax? BMW records? At any rate, whatever you end up with (for me it was a 128i) I'm sure you'll enjoy. |

For comparison, I am in Calgary and I pick up my 2008 135i tomorrow. 33,000km. Fully loaded (6-speed), brand new tires (still have the little rubber nubs on them), and a set of winter tires on rims. I paid $32,500. This car is immaculate - owner says he did the bmw car spa twice a year. I don't know, but it is clean.
The price of the car you are looking at is great. Obviously the mileage is fairly high, but I have no idea if that is a cause for concern on these cars. |

70k miles sounds like a lot.....that's more than 15k a year.....The price might be fair but I wouldn't get it cuz I don't wanna have to worried about fixing stuff all the time

Ask if you can take it for a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) at a local shop. One that is familiar with BMWs, if all checks out then go for it.

Just as a comparison. My 135 has about the same as that one ~120K km
Ive babied my car for most of that time, however. Ive still had costly issues. I would think very carefully about that car, I always assume that high mileage cars are abused and its saved me frustration a few times over. |

Things you will get fixed probably won't be major stuff but probably smaller things (sensors or some of the electronics). If the HPFP goes, that's covered. I would say you should offer $18-19k...you can do alot better than $21.9. Just my 2 cents. |

Book value is higher than CAD$21.9. Did you see the options? Options are the killer on the 1er. You can pump a new 128i up to nearly US$50k with options -- much higher than the US$31,200 base MSRP :P

Seems high - one thing I'd be worried about is the 70k miles on the clock. We just bought a 335i x drive, 55,000 miles on her, but only a 2010 and not having a warranty is killing us now - need 3 new injectors for $1200 already.
On the other hand, last week I bought a 2011 135i convertible, 13,000 miles on her, all options except sport and nav - 36 months of warranty and maintenance remaining - $35,000. So there are definitely deals to be had out there. Best of luck, but my suggestion - look elsewhere for either better pricing or inclusion of warranty. P |
