When I wash my car I spray some P21S wheel gel cleaner on the exhaust tips. Then wash off. Later IF they are still nasty... I use some Autosol metal polish on them. Works well.

So far, I've just been using the soft brush I use to wash the wheels to scrub the caked in soot and grime and then using one of those 'hand glove' wash mitts to do the detailed work.
I probably need to put some metal polish on soon.

I use the SS cleaner I use on my oven. It cuts through the grime surprisingly well and its formulated to clean metals that go through many heating and cooling cycles between each cleaning. Which conveniently both ovens and exhausts do.
Just that and a terry cloth gets most of it off without any work. |

Brasso metal polish - you'll never look back. It literally eats through the grime without much effort and leaves them sparkling.

I use superfine steel wool. Get it at any Home Depot or Lowes. Just wash, then take a small piece and rub it around the outside and lip, then wash again, and it takes about 10 seconds to make them look just like new.
