135i Owners Wanting to Have An M3 ???
Greetings!
I hope this question will not trigger some reflexology but am looking rather for an honest answer . I do Own a 135i and after '' perfecting it'' by removing the RFT's and the Turbo Lag & the CDV , i really feel that it came to life but i have to be honest , am still contemplating getting the M3 and having that NA V8 putting 400whp with bolt ons! and the fact that it is the very last high revving engine coming from BMW makes it somewhat of a Classic. that being said i want to keep my 135i as well Am i the only 1 in this situation? Thanks

You can easily have over 400whp AND 400wtq by spending less than 2k on your car. I personally could not live with the M3's V8 since it makes less than 300 torque. Can't go back to that low of a torque figure once you've had a turbo car.

Nope...I still want an M3 or M5. The 135 was just a bump in the road to satisfy my hunger for performance. I have not had a performance car or motorcycle since i've been married. Stay single guys So, the 135 fits the bill since I am paying for my daughters tuition($38K/yr). That being said, i've added a ton of mods and at times I feel like I should keep it for the long haul and buy an X3 or X5 in the future. Only time will tell

My next car lol, I drove one and yes it lacks the torque of a tuned and modded N54, but it really felt good once you got into it's powerband and the sound of that V8 is addicting. That or a used M6/M5 with the V10.

It was either my 135i or an 06 M3 and I preferd the smaller car. Always have. The new M3's are rediculously nice as hell but too big of a car and the 1M wasnt even a thought becuase of how fast I go through cars. I may keep the 135 for a little while longer however...

There've been a few (formerly) active forum members that have made the switch from the 135i to the E9x M3. I don't think any of them have regretted it. You could probably find a few threads on it.

Can't go wrong with either really. I was close to getting a used 09+ e90 M3 before I bought my 1M. Feel like I got the best of both worlds really. Love the potential we have with the N54 and I get the M3 suspension, brakes, wheels...and an LSD!
I have driven both a DCT M3 and a 6spd and I felt the DCT was better suited to the high reving v8. I am a 6spd guy so and I didn't like the manual M3 as much. Hard to be the torque we have for daily driving, yes the peaky V8 is better suited for high speed tracks, but I don't track enough to really enjoy that type of power delivery. |

What I dont like about the 135i is exactly some reviewers have mentioned....that its not as good as it could be because they couldnt have made it better than an M3. The 1m proved that its just as fast around a track as the m3 with much less HP so long story short for me the perfect car is a 135i with m3 suspension and differential with 400 hp 400 torque

That's the part I really don't like about the M3, you never get to fully enjoy it until you hit the tracks.

I had lusted for an M3 sedan. My boss picked one up and let me take it for a rip... I was actually pretty disappointed. To get the power from the car you have to really wind it up which is not so practical for every day driving. Around the town, I can't think of a better vehicle than our 135s.

The M3 is drop dead gorgeous and torque aside, it will out handle most cars including the 135 on the track. A real enthusiasts car.
That said, I would only consider it as my 2nd car. The gas would be a killer in daily. I wouldn't want to subject it to the turds in the mall parking lot. After maintenance / warranty period is over the cost to maintain and repair are very high. + In some ways it looks pretentious, very aggressive and I'd be sort of put off by driving it to work everyday. I actually would be more interested in a 1m, if only they offered it in DCT. |

I still find myself staring and checking out E46 M3s, i feel like i missed out on one of the greatest cars of all time. Funny thing is this morning in was looking at one in my parking lot at work haha. The current M3 is a masterpiece but i don't know i feel the M3 should have an inline 6 not a V8 even though S65 is a gem and sounds intoxicating it does suck down gas like a mofo!!

I really want an E60 M5, that V10 is just soooo amazing, I just wished it got better fuel mileage.

My 135 with PPK suits me just fine as my DD. Wouldnt consider a M3. I have a S/C'd C6 Corvette as my weekend warrior. The M3 is a nice car but a 2 passenger sports car with a big V8 that makes a lot more TQ than the high winding M3 plant is was gets me going.

Just keeping it real, Mate. Back on Topic: The 135i is the arguably the best performance car in its class, for the money. Biggest bang for the buck when you factor in: price, performance, panache, style, modest exclusivity, perfect exterior size w/4 seat capability... Cheers, B |

I took my buddy with an E60 M5 for a ride in my Cobb tuned 1er and his reaction was something like "HOLY F*CKING SHIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!!!!!" He said it felt significantly quicker than his car (quicker, NOT faster) which is my feeling about the M3 as well. They are engines designed to live at high RPMs and lack greatly in low end torque. Above 100mph, both cars will blow the doors off any 1series but that isn't a range I find myself in very often. I will say that the materials used in both cars are also significantly better than the 1. I liked the steering feel of the M3 as well.
