Thumbs up Getting there: e92 M3 Onboard Nordschleife Lap in 7:46

Hi guys,

up to now my fastest lap which I do have on tape.
Nürburgring Nordschleife "BTG Bridge to Gantry" in 7:46,6.

A 7:3x is absolutely possible with no traffic ....stay tuned

I recommend to watch the lap in 720p and Full Screen to get the "full experience"

Here's the HD Link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyPbCSuaLCs&hd=1

and here's the embedded video:

Enjoy it!

late evening something like 6:30pm.
I'm doing ~12-18 laps per day on a normal day. But once you get into traffic it's nearly impossible to set a fast lap in the 7:30 to 7:50 range.

1st lap ever on the ring makes you pee in your pants and it feels like you're driving a car for the first time in your life.

2nd lap you start to realize that this track is really not easy. You think that you now know the track after your fist lap but after just 10 corners you feel totally lost and don't have any idea where you are.
When you finished your 2nd lap without a crash you pull out, smoke a cigarette and drink some water.

3rd lap on the Nordschleife ... you start to realize what's really going on here. You pull behind a small 150HP "tracktool" and try to follow it in your 400+ whatever sportscar but it doesn't really work.
And you wonder how this Porsche GT3 RS was able to pass you in the Fuchsröhre with far over 140mph as you had the feeling that your 95mph your doing was the absolute max here.

If you're a gearhead than you just passed the point of no return.
You're absolutely addicted to this track.
You don't really feel it initially but it get's worse and worse with every lap you do.
Even 100 laps later you feel that you don't know the track and you just cannot stop.

There are many guys on the track who have done over thousands of laps in the past decade but still drive to the Nordschleife every time it's open with a really huge smile on the face.

These guys will tell you that every year after spending $15k just for gas, tires, brakes, season ticket, ... they're sure that this was the last season on the Nordschleife.
But they'll also tell you that they keep saying that to their wifes and friends for the last 10 years and ended up buying a season ticket every year again ...

Thanks for sharing. The manufacturers need to hire you, I know you have mild mods at least but that's like 15 seconds faster than the factory time IIRC.

That is a really good lap time. I was just reading this thread about how awesome it was for a 1M to pull a 7:45 BtG lap with a professional driver. The 1M has suspension mods and fixed-back seats too (not sure what mods you have other than the Akra Evo).

Apparently, you have to add somewhere between 20-30 seconds to the BtG lap time to get the full lap time reported by the journalists. See the link I posted above.

A half cage makes it a race car eh? If this is the same setup as he has posted info about before it's only on NT01's not even real race tires. Dunno about back seat area, but front is full interior as well.

Never said it was a race car mate - but to me at least fitting a cage in your car is not a 'mild mod'. If i turned up to buy an M3 that was described as mildy modded i would not expect to see a cage in place of the back seats!!
To me personally that is a BIG modification to a car - not a massive performance enhancement but certainly not a 'mild mod' - that was my point.

Ha fair enough, and I concur in that regard. I guess everything is relative. But I am really impressed with that time for the level of mods the car has. Aero and true race tires and weight removal would all shave a bunch of time off still.

I agree - that is a fantastic time, even with the added 30 seconds he would be very close to the official BMW time set by a professional driver - impressive!!

Very pleasant to see your lap!

It seems very easy when I look at your steering wheel. No bounce or drifting. Great!

$15k a year to be able to drive the Nurburgring all year is a fucking bargain
