Driving Roads Around Brisbane

Hi,

Found myself today getting a little frustrated in traffic (as you do) wishing for roads less travelled... but still a pleasure to drive on.

I use to do a lot of cycling, so i know a few good windy / quiet sections around,

Nebo / Glorious, Mt Mee over to Kingaroy, up to Maleny, down through the Gold Coast hinterland, which are great... but pretty popular places so can get crowded... (i.e. tourists during the day / Cyclists during the morning)

Anyone willing to give up some nice sections within about 2 hours of the city?

anyone try the Esk-Hampton Road, or the Gatton-Clifton Rd? it is up the range and finishes north of Toowoomba / Warwick.

(sorry if this has been covered off in another thread)

So long as you don't mind potholes that swallow 19's and driving on clay...

The guys/girls who've been organising these runs lately have been pretty fastidious. They drive the roads a week or two beforehand to make sure they're ok and visit venues to pre-organise morning tea/lunch. It's hard to fault what they do. That said, sometimes I wish I was driving by myself or in a much smaller group so that there wasn't so much waiting around for everyone to be ready or to catch up.

I have to admit, I haven't been on any of the recent ones. The numbers can get annoying at times but on the ones I've been to you end up in a group of 10-15 cars anyway.

I always test the roads the week or 2 before when I organise a drive. I just got back from the route we are doing next weekend. I found a couple of points where there are roadworks so there are some slight alterations to the route.

OP you're welcome to join us next Sunday. Many of the roads we are travelling have already been mentioned in your post besides the Sommerset part of the run which is good value!

Thanks for the heads up about the club.

I have been considering joining to take advantage of the club organised track days.

But I was wondering how they worked with large numbers and Public roads/ places... Does it get annoying ? Are people there for the machines / a chat / the drive?

Looks like a few guys are going next Sunday I was considering joining, mainly just to drool over the other cars...

It's worth joining for many reasons, including the 10% discount you get on parts/servicing at the dealers. Track days, skid pan days, display days, cruises, trips to Bathurst, Singapore F1. etc, etc,

Have a look at some of the roads around Buderim. There are a few spots around there that I used to love but it has been a while.

Some good roads but they are short, built up, low speed limits and attract police. If you're in that area you're better off heading up Hunchy Road or Palmwoods-Montville Road if it's been reopened then turning right onto Maleny-Montville Road.

It's a good Sunday drive and you get to see some awesome views but it's not as fun as Sommerset / Glorious / Nebo.
