DME & JB4
Ok guys, so I am ready to throw in a JB4 (N55).
How do I know what my DME software version is as older DME versions (pre 2.40.1) can't run JB4. My car was late 2010 production. I've read around and there's stuff about a skidding car icon with DSC off but I also read that they've now put the old triangle icon back on the latest DME? I have the triangle icon when DSC is turned off. So is there any way to find out which version I'm on or will I have to call BMW and ask? PS. Not sure if it displays this info but I have no navigation. |

You may have had a SW update since you bought the car so you might have the new SW. Only way I can think of is using a BT. Maybe Dackelone knows a way to see it when scrolling through the menu using the indicator stalk.

Thanks guys, I will grab my friend to have a squiz at it when he has time. He bought all the coding gear and told me he can put the PPK stage 1 (software) on my car.
Can I put the JB4 over the PPK? |

I think you can but I wouldn't do it. There's no point. Also, on the JB interface I can see that you select what tune you're running, I think it would only complicate things.

What do you mean Pav? I thought heaps of N55 owners had JB4's - my friend with a 335 N55 swears by it, but I know Angus had heaps of trouble with his JB4.
What about procede? Does that need a DME update? |

The guy's Asian (so I may have mistranslated) and he mentioned something about a performance software upgrade, so I assumed it was the PPK. Or maybe he's just talking himself up, since he likes to brag about everything.

sorry if that was a bit abrupt, but i recall reading a few threads with peeps having all sorts of problems with the install and the tune being unstable. could just be old folks with fat fingers, but compared to the ease of tuneability on the n54, if i was buying today i'd either buy used or 1m but not Vomit Orange

sorry i didn't pay too much attention, but on the main board a few months ago (coulda been 6) there were a few threads about cutting/freezing out and cars going dead. as i said on the other post could been poor installs or a bad board but compared to the ease on the n54 it all sounded like a pita

Are you buying the JB4 for N55 brand new? I know that Angus upgraded his JB3 to a JB4 as we attempted to do it together. It involved a new box and upgrading some wires, I'm still not sure if we can completely rule out an upgrade/install error as it was a DIY job. I'm also not familiar with the N55 either.

This sounds like a plan. Might as well throw in extra couple hundred and save headaches (hopefully).
Adrian says he has no mechs in Brisbane to install - anyone wanna recommend someone in Bne? Prefer not to install myself (yes I know it can be DIY but I don't want to since I'm terrible at it) |

BMW told me to book my car in for a service to look at the software. I only had a service a couple of weeks ago, should've done it then sigh. |

Don't see how the Procede will save you any headaches to be honest.
Went back and forth and was waiting for a RHD harness for the Procede for ages, until Andrew suggested I lay off Procede due to problems he had with a N55 335. They're all the same end of the day... |

Took my car to dealer and tried to use the "long crank" excuse to score a DME update. No go. (I didn't actually have long cranks, although the car did stall once or twice on cold start while reversing)
They replaced my fuel pump instead.................... They said DME upgrade will be about $350-$400, is this price reasonable? Edit: Confirmed DME software is old, haven't updated since production (looks like it's 2.38) Last edited by Knightelf; 09-07-2012 at 12:26 AM.. |

I think the prices are reasonable, it takes a whole day to do the DME update from what I was told. But I think you should try to talk to your sales guy to see if he can comp it for you, if you have a good relationship with him. |

I'll give other dealers a call and see if I can get a cheaper quote, otherwise my JB 4 will be $400 more expensive |

definitely call around; over here there's only two dealerships for BMW but westcoast quoted me $250 whereas autoclassic quoted $500!
