Bigger brakes for 120d

Hi
Recently purchased a e87 120d msport for my girlfriend which needs new discs and pads. And being the first BM we've owned I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to the finer details and differences etc

Im just wondering if there are any decent bigger brake conversions which dont cost the end of the earth.

I know there are the BBK's and also a guy on here selling the 135i brakes, but ive seen a car that had 335i discs and callipers put on the front (be it an overseas car)?

eg:

Has anyone done this conversion here in Australia? And is it a straight swap etc. And most importantly does it work ok with master cylinder sizes etc

Any help would be great.

The car in the photo doesn't look like it has 335i brakes though. Unless it had just been painted.

Browsing through some old threads, it seems the front will bolt on but the rear wont fit without some modding.
You could always speak to pete(skycat); his nashin bbks are very well priced and hes swapped the brakes around on quite a few bimmers i hear

With the 135i/335i option it would be. However, I am pretty sure there are smaller disc/callipers combination would be available I assume.

I won't be the best person to talk about it, so probably best to leave it with someone more qualify.

Well i can source 335i callipers for $250 (front). Its going to be much cheaper even with pads than any off the shelf brake kit.

Are 335i disc offsets the same as 120d's? i.e.: can i use some new 335 discs.
The car is running 18" wheels so there should be enough clearance.

Rears i may just leave standard for now with new pads and discs.

Colour is dark metallic grey. Pretty stock standard. Leather, m-sport kit etc, nice silver 18" wheels. Just all standard affair.

Although the car is mainly for my girlfriend, i will give it a bit of anger from time to time.

Hoping to do a ecu flash pretty soon to get a bit more out of it.
Or ive also seen overseas add on ecu/boost controllers which plug in. Are these any good? Or a no no?
eg: http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/...ails.php?id=10

Ive read the standard exhausts aren't all to bad either. So that will be it for now I dare say. I spend most of my time on a cosworth escort so this car is not my priority when it comes to performance.

Also I need to change the discs and pads now anyway as they're due. And if i can get the 335i discs/callipers and give a touch more brake power then it might be worth looking at.

I highly doubt 335i brakes will bolt straight on to your car.

What about putting some front brakes from a 130i to your car? Definitely an upgrade for it, as it has bigger caliper and larger diameter disc (330x24mm). And I think 120d has 292x22mm.

I have a front set if you are interested. I upgraded mine to 135i brakes.

Ok this is what im after.. Many thanks. I searched through a couple threads but couldnt find the right info.

"120d, 130, 135, 320, 335 front will all bolt up so you could fit the 4 piston set up from a 135 all OK"

So callipers are fine.

As far as i can see the disc rotors are too? The example above used 348mm which is the standard 335i disc size.

And also found another thread on this which confirms a bit more..

Ok more info on discs.. Ferodo disc brakes actually state dimensions.
So the discs will fit fine as well. Only thing as i thought the 335i discs were thicker than the diagram states..

120d:

335i:

So now to just check the master cylinder details, that the larger disc+calliper wont throw out the ratio. Might have to ring a bmw to get the spec of the MC and also 335 calliper size/fluid ratio..

Yeh mate they do fit. I put them on my 2009 fl 120d hatch myself. I'll try get some photos up. Same brake lines, brake sensor etc, 335i dust shield also bolts straight on with the caliper and rotor.

Cheers
