Thanks froop I noticed in your siggy you have some carbon fiber bits. I'm pretty keen on a rear diffuser, spoiler and mirror caps. BMW quoted me $550 each just for the mirror caps O.o
Any advice where I can pick these up a bit cheaper? |

Order it from overseas. I got most of my stuff from eBay. The rear diffuser was some generic eBay brand but it's pretty decent in terms of quality and fitment. Paid like $250 for it so I was pretty happy with what I got for the price. Mirror caps I got for $600 from a BMW eBay store from the UK. The spoiler I got for about $350 from an eBay store based in Germany. Mirror caps and spoiler both genuine pieces. What other mods do you have planned?

Ahh I see. Thanks for the heads up. 2600 for the diffuser is quite expensive for what it is!
All up Id like to do the following: Outside: Caps, diffuser, spoiler. Inside: BMW performance gear knob, aluminium pedals (if not so standard!) Performance: Not sure about this stuff to be honest I doubt I'll use the potential of the car in my daily driving anyway. If i do get an urge, might pick up a strut brace thats about it |

If you are going to get a strut brace I highly recommend the M3 Strut Tower Brace kit. Just make sure you get the 1 series specific kit as the center mount is different to the E9x kits.
I just installed mine yesterday and took it for a spin through Akuna Bay on the way home tonight. I don't know if it's just a placebo effect but I feel like it makes a very significant effect on the handling, on my E88 anyway. Previously the car was scary pushing it hard through a corner. Felt like the front end could break grip without warning and under steer into the gutter/wall/barrier/canyon. It now feels much more planted through the bends. Flatter and more communicative. I can push it much harder without feeling so scared as the front end just feels much grippier and in control. Loss of traction is now progressive.

Welcome!
From memory my bmw performance cf spoiler was shipped for about $700 (from Tischer BMW in US) but they stopped shipping overseas, so need to use a redirection service like myus.com now. BMR autorwerkes is the easiest (probably cheapest too) place to get it locally. |

Thanks all for the welcomes I'm definitely very excited, been wanting one of these babies for a while. My name is Pete btw.
Stu, I'll PM you once I pick up the vehicle should I need some assistance with bmraw.com. Thanks for the link Moocow, Haha I did spot that actually. I do LOVE the 1M as a collector car and would go there 100%, but my vehicle probably wont be a keeper at the end of the 4 year finance. By that stage I'll be 32 so I'd probably be looking into a 4 door something again (hopefully I'll be married by then!) My car's have been as follows: First car (18) - 1991 Magna 4cyl - first car, bought it from the parents for 1k when i started uni. Drove this for 5 years whilst I completed my degrees (yes I took my time, I really liked some subjects so I did them twice! ) Second car (23) - Short period drove a VZ Monaro in manual which had a cracked head and basically blew up about 1 week after I drove it out of the dealership (second hand) Third car - Moved onto a 2005 SS for a bargain deal due to the inconvenience caused. Been driving that ever since. Will be putting this up for sale shortly. Past few years I've been tossing up between the following: Nissan 350z Nissan 370z BMW 135i VW Golf / Scirocco R32 / R. BMW won out due to the following reasons: 1. I love the look for the car (I am a massive Coupe fan) Looks classy too. 2. Excellent fuel economy (who gives a shit?) 3. Great performance from what I've read and test driven. 4. I actually fit comfortably in the thing despite the fact that it's a smaller car (I'm about 6'4" so I have trouble fitting into most sportier cars ) I did my best to bring the purchase price down and as a corporate customer I got some good benefits. Still not sure if I drove it down as best I could. Still havn't finalized the finance. BMW Full Cycle has some great benefits (guaranteed buyback, 15-20k write-off protection etc), but the interest is 8.5% which is much higher than the industry standard (ends up being about $330 a week over 4 years). Doing a bit of digging around atm to decide who to go for. |
