For those interested, here is some detail on the car... it is outrageous really, no back seat, underfloor aero paneling, massive rear diffuser and a huge carbon fiber rear wing.

Looks unreal John, but I haven't really read much about them. I do know however its only 5kw more powerful than the regular John Cooper Works

What! the torque hasn't changed? What's the point in buying this over the JCW then!

I think its a gimmick, just keep the 1M.

Oh wow so it's pretty much the price of a 135i, but tiny, and slower, and less nice on the inside? (and outside)

Ok, I hear you.

Let me make a couple of comments, I personally am not a mini lover, never have been never will be. There is however a cult following out their believe me. If you want good resale, you turn over cars regularly, the owner (Mrs Alpine) likes them alot and they are rare as rockin horse sh1t (only 30 coming to Australia out of a 2000 production run) this is a way better bet than any 135i. Trust me

It may even be fun to drive

I disagree! Sorry John but the BMW 1M wins hands down in my opinion.

Congrats to Mrs Alpine! How long is the wait?

hehe, i should say i'm mostly joking

i like mini's

the cooper s is amazingly fun, and modifiable. not the 'nicest' car, but cute and fun

but.. when you're approaching the price of truly high end (everyday) cars (top pack 1/3 series BMW etc.) while claiming to be a full race spec (no rear seats, trick suspension, mild tune (5kw? come on it's a turbo engine, you could get a base model turbo 1.6 mini and add more than that for peanuts) ).. and price it against cars like the Evo X (if not priced even higher)

while also making it 'collectable' in the same sense as a 1m? but even rarer?

you have to be a hardcore mini fan to get one.

I don't doubt it'll 'command' a high price when resale comes around.. but the amount of people willing to pay said price? yeah, heaps of people even now want to jump on 1m's for pretty high prices, but a track day mini priced higher than a lotus, might be a little while to find a buyer?

ED: oh only $56,900 list price

that's not so bad, take back any comparisons price wise to a 135i, or a high end euro less than i expected! haha

still compares to an STI SpecR or EVO X MR, probably not too much different in terms of interior quality either (possibly in favour of the JDM cars?)

and has more character in one wheel nut than a whole 1er

I think MINI's are a car you either get, or don't. I still miss mine.

Hahaha am a bit worried now, Mini Melbourne were...... not as informative as we had hoped. We confirm a build slot tomorrow, but I was told that there are slots available in the February run, the other run is November (this year) but they are all taken. It's a long wait either way, de ja vu 1M.

It's only a $1k deposit, fully refundable, so no biggy if we change our mind or something else comes up of interest. It is a pretty loaded spec, even has heated Recaros apparently, but then they deleted the rear window wiper.

wow, just caught up with your selling 1M and getting these Minis. They look like fun car to drive even though I don't think you can compare this to 1M. They are different cars in many ways.

Congrats. and GLWS your 1M. Shame Salt & Pepper didn't get to play together long enough.
