OT: 135i vs S1
Some here have lamented the increase in size with each new generation of the M3. The 335i may be a good alternative for those. Just saw the following pic of the A1 (though it appears to be a CG) ,which looks a whole lot better than BMW's small car, IMO. An S or RS version of this could be interesting, and I bet it will come.

The 135i supposedly only weighs about 100lbs less than the 335i so its not much lighter...

I think I will take the 1 because it's a great bargain. Isn't the A1 a hybrid?

I was dissapointed in the weight numbers myself. I was thinking maybe it would be around the 3100lbs mark closer to the weight of an e36. But when I found out how much it weighs I was like "Oh well". Anyway that being said, if you strip this car, add stiffer suspension parts, and more hp/tq, it will still make a gr8 track car for sundays IMHO.

Surely for such a small little 1 series they could shave at least 200 lbs. off... Easier to toss around? A little but how significant of a diff can it be for 100lbs. less?!?! Think about- add 1 teenager in your seat and you equal a 335i with 1 driver. All I'm saying is that there should be more fat trimming involved. Hopefully BMW worked some other magic into the car..... |

Thats A1 looks pretty cool. I would consider it if it really is a hybrid (good commuter car and would help my guilty conscience for buying a 10-15 mpg M3 while the planet is going down the crapper)

I have seen plenty of good press about the M5. And I still can't understand about people complaining about the cars being too technology laden. It's not that hard to figure out the different settings. To me, that is a driver's shortcoming, not the car's.

M5 is the best all-around car I've ever owned. Better than my e46 M3, or e39 M5.
Motor is AMAZING, and suspension with adjustable EDC makes the car incredibly flexible. It is definitely NOT a car you can jump in and enjoy right away. You need to spend time understanding the settings and the nuances of the car. I think this makes is hard for journalists to give it an accurate review. Look at the 5th Gear review for the E60 M5 for an accurate assessment of the car. |

I think BMW's goal is to use technology to simplify people's life. So anytime someone has to LEARN to operate a vehicle he already knows it becomes an annoyance. In effect BMW has failed its goal. Well, unless, its goal is to use technology to complicate driving experience. If the technology is so good why doesn't it know what I want. Why do I have to configure?
I am an engineer so I can probably figure everything out without reading the manual but I don't think majority of bmw's customers are engineers. |
