M Performance Exhaust

Guys,

Just wondering if you guys could help me out here. I am looking for the M Performance Exhaust, I heard it one time but since it was at 3000 rpm (cold start) I am not sure it made that much of a difference compared to stock. It def. sounded better but not sure if it was worth the 3.5k. does it really make a big difference? also are there any power gains ? the only reason I am looking for the M Perf exhaust over the other ones on the market is the warranty on the car. Thanks

i doubt there's any performance gains from the exhaust by itself. does it sound better? sure. Is it worth it? only you can be the judge of value since you're shelling out your own money.

Swapping out your exhaust is not going to affect the warranty on the car, only on the exhaust itself. In order to deny a warranty claim, BMW would have to prove that the modification caused the failure. For example, they can't void your warranty on the navigation because you put an exhaust on the car.

Hope this helps your decision. It's a nice exhaust, but only you can decide if it's worth the money.

A cat back exhaust will have minimal impact on performance. The main improvement is for sound and aesthetics. I would recommend search this site and You Tube for examples of the MPE vs. stock vs. other vendor offerings. Even then, it will not be the true sound produced by the exhaust.

In general and from reading the various posts in this forum, a lot of owners are very satisfied with the MPE but it is expensive. You may also want to check offerings from Dinan, Akra, Eisenmann to name a few.

You're not going to hear anything amazing out of most exhausts under 3000rpm. Some will be louder than others, but in my opinion the real magic is really further up. Then every exhaust takes on its own personality.

There is no performance gain from MPE.

I don't think there is a gain but there is definitely a sound track to experience ... it's unique and exotic and nothing like any aftermarket exhausts. Is it worth the money ... subjective. For me yes, it's worth it.

Definitely a more unique sound from the MPE though more mellow for many people. No perf gains. Don't forget about the used market.

It should be said that there will be no performance gain with any of the aftermarket cans, you have to get into the midsection for power gains. Also keep in mine that a great sounding exhaust that gives you a headache isn't something you are going to want to keep on your car for long. This is one area where the MPE excels but some of the other options, not so much.

I'm still kicking myself for not taking up an a MPE swap offer locally. It was like $800 for an OEM swap with the seller helping me do the swap and install. Killer deal, just wasn't in town that weekend to get it done.

Is the MPE worth $3k to me? heck no. $800 and getting dirty installing it, hell ya.

Thanks guys for all the help, now I am even more interested in getting it installed. Anyone in the DC/MD/VA area that has the MPE installed. I was wondering which dealership would be the best to get the install done?

Since it's haunting you, you might as well just get one...It's a great exhaust. Most of us w/the MPE will say it was worth the price. No gains, just sound.

I love the sound but you will never hear me say it was worth it. The pricing on M3 exhausts is outrageous but I'm not singling this one out in that regard, with few exceptions they all fit that description.

I love mine - gives the car a voice (particularly at higher RPM) without being obnoxious.

Look for one used. At the going rate of ~$2,500, it's a great deal for an OEM inoconel exhaust.

I'm on the same boat. Picking up an e92 m3 and DEFINITELY after the MPE...like someone said above, NO exhaust sounds like it!

You can also buy a new one on eBay for around $3200 (incl. shipping).

A good muffler shop will install the MPE for $100 or less. Their install will be as good or better than the dealership (and definitely cheaper).

Dealer shouldn't charge more than $100.

In actuality, there probably is a slight hp gain, just nothing worth advertising. Has anyone looked in through the MPE? It is primarily a straight through pipe.

One online road test does say "425 hp" although I have no idea where they got the info.
