2012 CTS v type vs m3

Upon cruising on a local street I had a brand new Cadillac CTS v spec blow by me and proceed to enter the on ramp leading to a major Hwy. I decided to give it a try. I accepted the challenge and we went at it. The race started from a 20km roll on up to 250 kms per hour with in few seconds ( at least it felt like it )
First gear, second gear most of third we were dead even. -I'm a bit surprised at this point since Im supercharged but running stock exhaust which takes away about 30whp ) then top of third I pulled on him half a car and kept pulling away. Upon arrival home I googled the specs of this beast which I'm sure many of us car buffs seem to over look. 558 hp 551 lb of torque and quarter mile 11.8. (2011 model specs) Domestics had never turned my interest before but I can honestly say between styling and out of box performance I found a new level of respect for this amazing machine.

I owned the previous gen CTSV and loved it. The current generation is a beast as well but it is too large and heavy compared to the M3.

Aren't these things like 5200+ pounds? Literally like 1700 pounds heavier with 100-150 more horsepower?

Edit: They are 4200+ pounds. lol So they are 1000 more pounds than an E46 M3?

Being so a very fast car per comparison.not many cars run 11s stock.

Must have been a fun race!! The V is really fast, but I think if he was stock you should have pulled on him a bit more then that! You're probably manual but still a stock CTS-V trap about the same as my manual VT1-535 with stock cats! My guess is that he had an aftermarket tune or something!

This is one of the car I can't wait to give a try on the highway, I know the M5 is a bit faster then the V and I was dead even with one from 25-130mph!

A new CTSV is fully built at $70k. An M5 is $110k. I love the quality of material inside and it's looks are very aggressive. If I was in the market for such a car, I'd buy a CTSV and use the other $40k for something smaller and more track focused, and $40k gives quite the selection.

A stock ctsv runs 11.8 1/4 mile. I don't think m5 can run the same ? Certainly not m3 with a stage 1. But the oem exhaust is very restrictive on my behalf, I have raced many fast cars and I must say this was the closest race I had so far. I am very impressed with Cadillacs ability to deliver that much performance with a touch of Luxury with full warranty. Right on GM

An M5 will trap from 118-122mph depending in if it's manuel or DCT and can easily run 11s on a good day with good traction, a CTS-V only trap around 118mph and my VT1-535 trapped 119mph with stock cats! Also I'm pretty sure I beat CTS-V since I was equal with a M5 DCT!

Anyway now I have test pipes and I'm upgrading to VT1-550 next week so hopefully I'll be trapping around 121-123mph so it wont be a question anymore but I guess it could be a good race against you!

Nice. I wish I had v box so we can have some real world data. I guess I have to eliminate my primaries. Just when I thought I was done with modding

Test pipes are the best bang for the buck on the M3, you almost have no choice but to do it, and the extra torque is nice!!

The only downside is the noise level when you step on it, it's a bit much for my taste but I think it's quieter then any x-pipe so I'll see how much time I'll endure this!

With the VT-550, test pipes and 94octane I should be right around 600hp, it could be a really close race against a VF620 with stock cats and 91octane... if you ever come near Ottawa...

Nop, I never dynoed it, there is only Mustang dynos around here and I don't want to get depress about my numbers. I prefer to go at the drag strip and let my trap speed tell the real story! 119mph with my VT1-535/stock cats/94 octane is right where I should be but now I want to be in the +120mph club so the test pipes and vt-550 upgrade should more the do the trick!

The next CTS is moved up market to compete with the 5 series since the ATS is now available.

I really like the new styling

Humm, pretty sure it's always been a 5 series competitor, people compared it with the M3 because of the price but size wise it's always been closer to the 5serie!

When I got my 540 friend of mine got the 550. We both dynod together and did few upgrades. He did 471 whp with stock exhaust. 497 catless and. 501 with akra Evo system. U should expect same results.

That was on a dynojet I guess because those are good numbers!? Was it with 94octane? ESS state a 15hp difference between 91 and 93 so around 22hp difference between 91 an 94octane and honestly my butt dyno tells me it's even more then that! It's a first for me to see that much difference in performance only by changing the gaz, I don't even like the feeling of the car when running 91octane!

My estimate is that the VT1-550 with 94octane should do 570-575hp plus an other 20-25hp with the test pipes so I should be around 600hp at the crank!
That should translate into +122mph traps if I can find the traction which was THE big problem at my last visit at the strip! I still managed a 12.5@116mph(with VT1-535) with a 2.2 60ft(I was spinning till third) which is a good time for a that bad 60ft! Also it was a bad day for everyone, as an exemple, my friends stock C63 who can usually run low 12s@+113mph only did a best of 12.8@109mph! The owner of the track even came to tell me to bring a helmet next time because he thinks I will be in the 11s on a better day, I told him I would start to wear a helmet only after my first pass in the 11s! Lol

So my goal this summer is to be the first(first that I know of) manual VT1 M3 to get in the 11s on street tires and if that does'nt happen I'd be happy with a +122mph trap!

Gentlemen, I've never owned a domestic car. But, I would not mind owning a CTS V wagon. Car looks amazing.

Dang Alex, I didn't know you were running with stock primaries. You need to get test pipes immediately! Plus Corsa's are that generally loud correct?

+1. Don't like the coupe, hate the sedan, but would not mind the wagon. That's the only way I'd drive one of these.

I think the new ATS-V will be a real winner, not to mention if Caddy ever comes out with a ATS-V Coupe. This was Caddy's firs true attempt at having a car that will handle well. I can't wait to see a shootout between the F8X M3/M4, ATS-V, C63 AMG, ISF and S4/RS4 (and Volvo's S60 Polestar). So many good choices out there now...
