oil cooler upgrade/2nd cooler...

have dinan stage 2 and want to go stage 3 soon. need to get an upgraded oil cooler or 2nd unit for the car before they will re-flash (can flash before but voids dinan warranty).

who has done this? dont want to pay $1400 for the dinan unit when i know there are other equal/better options out there.

would it be best to just upgrade the single unit or to add a 2nd cooler? pros and cons of both if possible, any insight appreciated! thanks

I would always upgrade. Less plumbing, less chance for irritating oil leaks.

Eligibility for Dinan stage 3 requires an upgraded FMIC, not an extra or upgraded oil cooler. If you're already on stage 2, then you should already have an oil cooler as it's required to get the flash. So the question I think you want to ask is, should I get the Dinan FMIC or a different after market solution? To which there are a million threads available, full of recommendations and the like. The over-all census is that they're all pretty much the same depending on depth etc. For simplicity sake I would recommend something that's plug and play and works with stock plumbing.

Edit: Just realized that you're on the n55 platform. Turns out you need both an upgraded oil cooler AND an upgraded FMIC. Like Chris said, upgrade both as I don't think we even have room for a second oil cooler.

Unless you can find another place that can get enough airflow, this is option 2 for you. I agree with the others above to just upgrade the stock OC. If you seriously track the car, then go for the 2nd oil cooler.

ive seen a unit on the other side where the stock cooler is or in front of the radiator
