Could it have been a lemon buy back?

Wear looks consistent with mileage to me. Nothing fishy except that it is a 6 year old car with suspiciously low miles. Has to be a back story there.

A big repair bill arrived luckily a week before warranty ran out.

My opinion only but... excessively low mileage on cars can be just as bad as excessively high mileage. Cars, like our bodies, are machines and need regular "exercise" to stay in tip top shape.

Plastic, rubber, etc. remains susceptible to aging, the sun, cracking, by just sitting around. Moreover, parts of hte suspension continue to suffer wear and tear just by holding the car up. Motors need to be run properly.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a very low mileage car but I'd certaily prefer one that was maintained properly and regularly "exercised".

^ yea, what he said. motor needs to be ran. my dad has a 20 year old toyota land cruiser...60k miles on it...it developed a RMS leak from just sitting in the garage. his brother with the same vehicle has 250k miles on it and no issues or leaks with the motor. id rather buy a higher mileage properly maintained car. u know at least its proven itself to be somewhat reliable

thats really low mileage.. i bought my 08 with 8100 miles in may for 44k; brought it to bmw and they said he changed the oil and fluids every 2k miles since he didn't drive it often. make sure it has service records of everything that has been done. just seems very suspicious.

50k? Hah, i would sell my 2011 for 50k, plus that thing has had the miles rolled back most likely. It is in great shape tho.

something is not right about that car, but hell, if they'll let you bring it to a BMW dealership to get it inspected / tested before buying, why not?

Mine's a 09 and it has about 3500 miles on the engine so far
Yup, 3500 miles!
except the chassis has 30K miles and I had some issue with my old engine and got a brand new engine built and sent from BMW gmbh in Munich, installed by BMW dealer here.

Did anyone contact the dealer and ask some intelligent questions?

Consider also that the car now has no more warranty unless the dealership will sell it with a warranty. Anyone interested in the car should ask a lot of questions why this 2008 car now over 4 years old is still at the dealership. Perhaps the milage is based upon a new engine? Questions asked will bring the facts to light.

Also has anyone of you taken there 2010, 2011 or even 2012 e9x to a dealer asking what your trade in allowance would be? You will be surprised how much value you may have lost on your ride from the time you drove it off the dealers lot.

Would you agree your loss might be 25 to 30% from the original purchase price?

I purchased a restored 280 SL 1969 last May and already was offered $25K more at the Williamsburg, Virginia car show last September … I hope the ///M3 e9x will be in such high demand in 50 years My 280 SL is the first car I ever purchased that actually increases in valye … no it is not a ///M3 by a long shot, however, what fun it is

I lived in Rochester for two years. The nice weather only lasts 3 weeks so the miles are probably legit. Note the salt on the tires and it is only November. I still remember the late night Garbage plate.
