Sell or Keep 08 135i

Car is now at 70K

almost full fbo minus IC .. never had one problem with it except water pump.

Kinda scared of maintenance cost (turbo replacement if seal goes bad, vanos, injectors, etc, etc)

Anyone want to comment on maintenance cost after 70k approaching 80k? Planing to keep this car for another 10-15k then selling it. I would want to keep it forever tho

Thanks!

Mine has 88k and no significant issues. No reason to believe it will not keep going strong.

The water pump is not unusual; some owners will replace it before failure as a preventative measure.

How frequently did you change the oil? If more frequently than the BMW intervals, that would be a plus.

You would be due for, or should have already done, some other fluid replacements.

If maintained in an "old-school" fashion, most any BMW would be a last time.

If simply following BMW's own routine, probably less so.

What have your repairs and maintenance been costing you per year?

Were you the first owner?

keep it! old school maintenance, and stay away from the dealer for repairs. Enjoy upgrading the suspension as it needs replacing!

I would think that there is a good "indie" shop in your area. That would be a plus.

Of course, it boils down to a financial decision. I realized that I was spending too much money on cars in my 20s, and I ditched the habit. Still drove fun cars, but from a much less expensive standpoint.

I'm happy I did that. Retiring at 56 was worth it.

oil changed every 7.5k, fluids have all been flush and change minus tranny. That's about it.

Car pulls hard and strong according to M-Power my Houston indie shop.

I run e30 sometimes with jb4 map5. Switching back to pump since i'm worried about in my injectors.

Would think these cars will get less and less expensive to maintain as they age - because BMW, the dealers, and parts sourcers realize the market will disappear if it's too expensive. There are also plenty of them on the road to keep them interested in the market. Seems like if these cars pass about 80k, they have less issues? I'd keep it - you prob won't get much in resale anyway.

All cars have maintenance. If you decide that the driving pleasure outweighs the time spent maintaining it, keep the car. If you want to spend more money on the swap to a new car with different driving dynamics, sell it.

Keep it in storage and forget about it (except regular maintenance). Be something really cool to give grand kids at college graduation! That's my plan.
