dumb to buy a beater so 135 stays fresh?

135 still in great condition and would like to keep it that way. Always sweating a rock chip, door dings, hail damage etc. Considering a high mileage RSX for DD.
So... drive & enjoy the 135 and just forget about it or get a beater and only drive the 135 occasionally?
Wifey doesnt understand this logic- Am I crazy?

Drive and enjoy. That's what it's for.

I've gone the beater route occasionally in the past, and always hated driving the beater, and ultimately got rid of the beater, and drove the BMW (last time I did it, it was when I had the M3). Besides, BMWs are better to be driven constantly.

I would chew off my, "important" arm off to live in Texas and be able to not worry about crap like Winter tires and that incessant "ding" every time I start my car to tell me, "It's cold outside".

It's fucking cold right now and I have relatives that live in Austin who still complain about the heat..

Go drive the crap out of that God Damned thing and enjoy it to it's fullest extent. Anything less would be a shame..

I have seen a lot of people doing that. It is totally normal.
my logic is to drive and enjoy. If one day i get my GTR, the 335 will become my 500hp daily beater

A "beater" will end up costing you money to keep it running. You won't enjoy driving it and it will take up space.
Cars are meant to be driven IMO. Drive yours and enjoy it while you can 'cause you won't have it forever and that's guaranteed....

Get a beater, then park your 135 in the living room, with a rope around it. Gaze longingly at it daily, wondering just what it would be like to drive. Don't let anyone touch it, or breathe on it. In fact, don't let them gaze in that general direction for more than 3 seconds.

Then, 5 years from now, when the 135 has become old hat, you can trade it in toward something you really want, smug in the knowledge that you got an extra $300, because it was pristine. Then park THAT in the living room, and start the process all over again.

Or not.

How mant miles do you put on?
I do about 25k/yr so I have two vehicles, put on about 12k each.
If I didn't in 4 years the 135 would have 100k on it and be worthless and need a lot of maintenance.
If you only put 10-12k/yr on the car don't worry about it.

My 135i Vert has been listed for sale but I am having 2nd thoughts. I have a somewhat of a beater that I use as a daily driver but when my wife's new daily driver arrives in a couple months I may just get rid of the beater along with her current daily driver and keep the 135i Vert as my only driver...it really is an enjoyable car and you only live once!

You have a nice car that you enjoy driving it, so much that you don't want to drive it and ride in some junky car? LOL!!

My co-worker bought a nice Jag early this summer yet has barely taken it out of his garage. Like you, it's not intended as a collectors car. Instead he's making payments to see it sit.

Enjoy the car! Eventually years from now when the 135i is older, I'm sure you'll have plenty of great options to choose from if you so decide to try another car.

It's simple math...

Once you put it on paper, the answer will be obvious.

Enjoy your car

Would be more understandable in the winter if you get a lot of snow, but if you get nice weather most of the time I'd just keep driving the 135. I have a couple "beater" SAABs for inclimate weather, salt, and hauling stuff, but I enjoy driving them too so it's not like it's a chore for me to drive them. I didn't go out of my way to buy them after my 135i though, just kept them around since they were my college cars.

No one on these forums is going to buy a car and just "showroom it". Cars, all cars, are meant to be driven and enjoyed.

I vote get a beater. The 'Drive it and Enjoy it' still applies after you get a Daily Driver. I honestly enjoy my 1series more after I take occasional breaks from driving it. The contrast from my DD to the 1er keeps me appreciating it.

exactly....it's just an object. meant to be driven and used. i personally could never sacrifice driving a beater and suffering through life just to maintain the condition of my car. what about the condition of my MIND!? that's FAR more important.

I used to be "drive it no matter what" guy, until after a couple winters I looked at the front of my car, and promptly bought a $1000 Subaru Impreza, which is not only cheaper to run, but way more fun to drive everyday as well in the city.
