Concerned: Germans in trouble !!!
Well all the bitching I have done about the M3's Geramn rivals (RS4-5, C63 AMG) seems to be in vain, now the Jap's are in the game with the IS-F and seem to have been able to match what our beloved Bahnstormers can do. The battle is no longer between German cars, its Germans vs. Jap's. Let's hope Germany fires back soon and put Toyota(lexus) in their place. At least Car and Driver admit that the IS-F is "watery, bleek, heavy and not the raw drivers car the M3 is"
Think we still have a chance at winning the war? bear in mind that an M5 fighting GS-F is on the way 2012, lets hope the M5 packs the proposed 600+ HP we have been hearing about. :sad0147: |

What battle? What are you talking about? The battle BMW had to fight was to get me (or anu individual) to open my wallet in a BMW dealership. Everything else is irrelivent. I dont want a sodding Toyota, sorry Lexus. I dont want an auto. I dont want a 4 door, a Merc, another sodding Audi or anything else. I want an M3. I dont give a toss what other cars come out.
Who cares if that car has 30bhp more or does .2 less to 62mph? Anyone on here who uses every inch of their new M3s power on the public road every day should be banned from owning a powerful car anyway. |

chicagobimmerboy, what's with all the fanboy posts? First you start a thread (now deleted) lambasting people for even acknowledging the IS-F (and other rivals), and now you are going on about some German vs. Japanese war, with the IS-F the center of the controversy?
You seem to be really looking to create a lot of drama here. The thing is, it just provokes flaming and other conflict. How 'bout you take it to another forum, eh? |

Toyota, now the largest car company in the world, has alot of performance experience, even though their current lineup does not reflect it. Supra anyone? Not to mention the fact that they have been running a Formula 1 team for several years now, as well as recently expanding their motorsport efforts into the stockcar world. So, I see it as no surprise that they would be very successful in adding some performance to the IS. Does it really compete with the M3? Probably not, but that is not what they set out to do. But you can be sure that it will be fast, comfortable, and unbelieveably reliable.

I think what everybody is trying to say is that BMW missed the ball on this one. The m3 had always been on par with the Corvette of the same year, but the new vette is now way ahead of the M3. The new 08 Corvette will run 12.4 without much effort, I just don't understand why the M3 wasn't made to do the same. I really hope that when the car hits the states it will hit at least a 12.7 by the magazines, 12.9 isn't too respectable in 2008.

Although, I'd have to disagree w/ the statement in bold. In recent years, the Vette has maintained the performance edge over the ///M3, especially in Z06 guise. |

didn't know we were at war
all manufacturers are entering the performance arena, very competitive field, a lot of good cars out there, now it's just down to individual preference |

The z06 was always better, I'm talking base vette vs m3. The E36 was probably better than the C4, the C5 and m3 were about even and now the base C6 is a much better performer than the m3. I know they are different types of cars, but for the past 10 or so years, the m3s performance has been right on par with a 2 seater american icon, but with the new m3 it seems like they are lagging a bit.

Would you agree that it is your opinion that your comment in bold is based strictly on straight-line performance numbers? If you disagree, then please explain to me how you feel that BMW is lagging IYHO? |

Wrong, a Z51 Corvette ran a 7:57 at the ring and that was with the ls2 engine, the new corvette has 30 more hp. And btw, the z51 package only cost about $1500, probably about as much as the EDC on the m3.

And what the hell is your argument based on. A brand new stock corvette will run 12.4 in the quarter mile, pulls higher Gs on the skid pad and runs faster times on a race track. What is your argument? That the M3 can fit 4 adults comfortably?!?! Oh, I forgot, the Corvette gets better gas mileage too!

You're essentially saying what I've been saying.... .....that the Vette has always been a great performer; eclipsing the ///M3 in most cases. |

As I stated previously, I felt that BMW had kept up with the Corvette in previous years, if not surpassed them. BMW did a great job with the New M5 and new M6 when it comes to all out power and straightline performance. I also understand that the m3 is not about straightline performance, but it is always nice to have. I guess I would just have liked the m3 to have a little more power, maybe like 440 hp or something around that, something to get it into mid 12s.
