Can't say much about evo X, took a ride in one, love the car but evo IX sure does give a bucked load of problems. I highly doubt that evo x would be much improved.

If you want to be faster than a 135, then you could be pushing the edge of being usable on the street.

If you're looking to track it, well that is an option.

Me, I'm hanging on to my 128 for a while. I might consider the M235i down the road.

Before that, I would like to go to a Performance Driving School.

I'm a fan of having the driver match the capabilities of the car. So, I need to upgrade myself first, not the car.

BMW CCA HPDEs would probably be a better option for a fraction of the price.

Buy a 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera 4s, not sure how reliable they are but they are quicker then the 135 with outsanding handling

the Evo X is a great car to drive----but it is slower than a 135i. The handling is fantastic, and the steering is beautiful----but the car feels MEGA cheap on the outside and inside.

I think as a driver's car, there isn't a lot out there that will be as good as the Evo X for the price; however in order to play you have to get past the cheapness of the build quality and materials----and really put a pure priority on performance only. I almost bought an Evo X two times...but each time i can never get past the low-budget nature of it all or the lack of aesthetic appeal.

the Evo is not a 'trouble free' car....except it's cheaper to fix when it breaks.

Would you consider a B8 Audi S4? It has AWD and is as fast if not faster than a 135i. Here are my thoughts on the S4.

Pros:
  1. Interior quality/fit and finish is superb.
  2. It's a great daily driver. It's comfortable. It's ride is smooth.
  3. It's pretty reliable. I've only had one recall, but I also had one of the earlier produced batches.

Cons:
  1. Heavier, but definitely not a boat. The engine makes up for it.
  2. Steering is a bit underweighted for my taste.
  3. Inherent understeer, but very noticeable at the limit.
  4. Gas mileage is decent (I averaged about 26mpg)
  5. Price, but you pay for what you get though

it's not a 5 cylinder turbo. it's a 2.0T 4 cylinder.....kind of a boring engine, actually. the 5-cylinders are on the RS3 and TT-RS.

You may want to browse the evo forums. The platform itself is great, and is a very versatile car, but definitely not a worry free car. Repairs will be cheaper, but like any car, they are going to be downfalls. I enjoyed driving my friends Evo X, but like its already been said, the interior and exterior is so cheap feeling, I couldn't get past it.

Have you considered a Cayman? I am debating getting rid of my 128 and picking up a new-ish Cayman. Based on the reviews and what I've read, they are peppy as balls, and are surprisingly reliable.

the Cayman is probably better in the snow on snow tires than the 135.....mid engined helps traction a lot.

where in NY are you? it doesn't even snow much in NYC. 5-6 days a year of A LOT of snow....then nothing.
