Personal property stolen while in for service
I took my vehicle in for some warranty work:
Water Pump failed DSC and braking system needed calibration Picked it up Friday after Thanksgiving. Move along to last Wednesday. I went looking for my month-old TNF coat. I'm furious and frantic b/c I can't find it. Called a few friends just in case I might have left it. Nothing. I swear I left it in the car. Anyways, I was leaving that night for a road-trip to Chicago. So I went looking for my crown royal change bag. Not in the car...NOW IM SUSPICIOUS. I figured, what the hell, I'll call the dealership. Got Bill my SA on the line and asked, "Hey, have you had any reports on theft from peoples' cars?" He told me to hold on. Asked me when I had my car in for service. Told him I picked it up that Friday after Thanksgiving. He said during Thanksgiving night some people stole 2 plow trucks and a duelly. and went through a number of clients' cars. THANKS FOR NOT LOCKING MY CAR. He told me to bring down an invoice for the items I was missing. Ran down there and he was completely accommodating. Told me they would probably just cut me a check for my stolen coat. I don't care about the $10 in change. I thought it would be more of a "Prove what they took" thing. Some days I wish I could be a scumbag one time. I could've claimed sunglasses, radar detector, shoes etc etc. But I just can't do it. Thanks Mom and Dad :-) Question: Should I ask for a PE or PPK1 instead of a cash payout? I want to, but I should be getting rid of the car within a year or so. Thoughts?

Unless your coat cost $1k, I'd just take the money. Sure its a scumbag thing for them not to lock the doors, but they aren't jerking you around and are offering to reimburse you. Take mental note of the offense for later, of course, but for now just take the check and be done.

I would just be happy the dealership is willing to own up to it and reimburse you anything.
Tell them the total value of the loss and take the money and feel pretty good about it. Stupid on their part not to lock the car though.
