Car didnt crank this morning
Hey everyone, i got woken up by the wife person this morning saying that the car wouldnt crank and asked if she could use my car instead. Of course that was fine since she had to go to work. A few hours later i went out unlocked the car and tried to start it and it cranked right up. I shut it down and tried again and it cranked right up again. Then i waited a couple hours tried again and still no problem.
I asked the wifey what the car was doing and she said that when she tried to crank the car all she heard was noise coming through the speakers of the radio and that was it. no lights, no cranky cranky etc. Weird huh? Has anyone ever experienced this before? If so what was it? I am waiting on a reponse from her now as to what the noise sounded like, I will post that once she responds.

Did she have her foot on the brake when she was pushing the start/stop button? Kinda sounds like she didn't. I've forgotten to do that a couple of times early in the morning myself when I'm tired and the car won't start. I feel stupid after I figure it out lol.

sounds like she forgot to either stick the key in all the way, or put her foot on the brake/clutch.

Update:: well it was definately an issue. She explained that she inserted the key and placed her foot on the brake then pressed the button. Afterwards the rado came on and was buzzing. The starter didnt engage or anything. she said that she took the key out of the car and clsoed the door and the car was still buzzing through the radio. Something went really weirdly wrong for sure. since then no issues were found but we'll see. if it happens again. Has anyone else had any issues?

Had a similar issue a few weeks ago. No crank. Buzzing sound from speakers (although the radio was working), the hum of the water pump, and a bunch of strange warning lights. Put the car on a battery charger over night. The battery charge is too low for the ECU. After a full charge, I have had no issues.
p.s. I even tried to jump the car when it was dead without success. |

How much gas was in her car? How much gas was in your car?
Sounds like a battery.

I had a similar problem today. I pushed the button and the starter would not engage. Lights, radio, are fine but starter would not engage. My car is a 2009 with original battery. I only have about 64K miles. It a weekend car. I wonder if my battery needs to be replaced?

If you need to change out the battery, do it yourself and register it yourself... You don't want to let the dealer stick it to you like they did to me.

With something like this, your first step is to read the fault memory. Second thing is to load test the battery. Sounds like your battery to me. G.L.

I don't think it's the battery in this case. IF your car hasn't been in for the battery cable recall, that's the first thing i would look into. Sounds like a loose or faulty connection.

Two ways that I know of:
1. USB-OBD2 dongle and NCS expert software 2. WiFi/Bluetooth-OBD2 dongle and BMWhat app

Anything from AutoEnginuity (PC software or battery widget). I have the battery widget, cost me $140. BT Scan Tool will register a battery on an N54, but not an N55 (not sure about N52).
