No, I'm Not Going to Race You in the Rain

I'm looking at you Mr. White Scion TC. Not to mention, it's rush hour.

Yes, that was me. I too am from Texas and wondered onto 1addicts with the suspicion you may have called me. It's ok, I saved you from massive embarrassment. Don't mess with the king of fwd.

And NO I don't snowboard in TX but it provides Aero, duh!

Outside of the NSX community, the Japanese car crowd is just awful.

Clubrsx is a pretty good representation of this. Same with Clublexus.

Some know what they are doing, most just want to race everything in sight. I get rev'd at pretty often from Jap cars. If I encounter another BMW, it's usually a thumbs up and continue on our separate ways.

BMW community by in large is actually pretty good. Sure, there are the stancetards(which is much more prevalent in the Japanese car scene), but in general the BMW community is a rather excellent combination of money and a hands on approach. Not so much money that they are technically incapable, but not so little that they can't afford anything.

It will be interesting to see where it goes in the future with the complete product revolution and focus shift BMW has had.

That's probably true! I don't doubt that one bit.

I honestly see more money thrown around in the import scene than the german scene, especially in regard to platforms outside of the various Ms or the E90... not that money spent really means anything.

I was referring to the camaraderie, really. I've been in several scenes over the years and the most "approachable" and affable groups tend to be ones with a bit of history behind the platform or brand coupled with a mid-level income.

Perhaps it's just down in the southeast, but I tend to notice more competition and less approachability between owners than a mutual appreciation when compared to other brands or platforms.

People who are on this forum are different than those on e90post. People on e90 want everything for $5, and then want to sell everything for $5 less than what they paid. I can certainly appreciate other cars, but it seems like every ricer with a melon launcher exhaust thinks their car is fast. But bmw does have their fair share of douche bags who cant see past the roundel.

It's usually money spent on terrible decisions revolving around the concept of "show cars". A good portion of money here, as an example, is spent on mods that are essentially invisible, like subframe bushings.

I'm not trying to same BMW forums are perfect. But I don't give up hope like I do on Japanese/American car forums.

Things are said in general about BMW owners every where one goes. If its been said, its been said about BMW drivers. To generalize one particular brand( and owners) are a certain way is doing the same childish behavior.

It shouldn't even have to have to be said but I will anyway, not that it will change opinions. There are all kinds of different individuals in every circle of life with every car group( or anything else for that matter).

I get real tired of cars of any make with huge noisy mufflers. I like to hear my car and don't mind hearing other peoples cars when they sound decent and aren't terribly noisy. But a tiny 4 cylinder with a 4 inch exhaust opening isn't what I want to look at or listen to.

I was curious and looked up TC hp and 0-60. 161hp and about 7.4 second 0-60. A 128i is comfortably better than that. 3 liters should put out more than 2 liters. I'm sure you can increase the TC motor but you can the n52 also. The 128i is rated for 240hp but the same motor in a X3 or X5 is rated about 270hp. A three stage intake (BMW parts) plus tune will take you to around 260 crank. Headers should increase that.

The only way a TC gets into this hp department is a turbo. That's possible, of course.

Streets are not a good place to race, of course. Too many drawbacks from a safety standpoint.

Maybe they wants to see who had the loudest stereo. No doubt they'd win. Easier head unit swap.

BTW, I just watched that video on the "news" section about the E46 M3 vs. Ford Fiesta ST and he even mentions something about the douchy BMW owners. I'm sure a lot of people on the 1addicts forum beg to differ. We all seem like pretty nice people and not obnoxious or stupid.

I'm sure there are some that may disagree with that, but for the most part, I think we have a pretty good community here. Lots of good information I've learned since registering here, and I definitely would not know as much without this forum and community here.

I think we get a bad rap because we love to drive and are assertive in doing so. I am not disrespectful of other drivers but if I see an opportunity to pass I will, and because my car handles better than the other driver thinks it does, I'm labeled as a rude driver.

There was also a long period of time where what we had was simply better than 99% of cars on the road for driving. I have a buddy who used to be rather active in the Maxima scene and had the typical mindset about BMW from the non-owner. When he got his e36 M3 his entire perspective was reversed and he felt bad enough about his previous views that he wrote a personal apology letter to anyone who he ever previously debated the topic with.

I was always amused he had that much of an epiphany.
