Remote Start from Fob?
Yes, I already searched. Are there any proven options for setting up remote start on a DCT M3 via the key fob? I saw a UK company has something but nothing in the states. Anyone done a mod like this?

God forbid you remote start your car while in gear and it hits another vehicle, a person, or rips a hole through your house.

God forbid indeed! I do however know of a company offering exactly that in Australia... I just wondered if there was a cheaper option out there (apparently it checks the gear selection before startup up somehow) ?

I wired my 5MT truck to start w/out depressing the clutch for the express purpose of adding remote start. There are quite a few alarm installers that will wire remote start on a manual vehicle. |

For reference in case anyone is looking for other ideas... I did this previously to a manual car and utilized a remote start that had multiple output channels.
What I did was the following - 1. I wired in a relay that when energized would essentially mimic someone depressing the clutch. 2. In order to provide further safety I trained the FOB or used an output that required two buttons to be pushed simultaneously for clutch depression. This was in addition to the actual remote start 'start' function that had to be pressed first to initiate the car starting. 3. I also wired in another failsafe utilizing a magnetic switch on the actual gear selector. The magnetic switch was a Normally open switch, so if the car was in any gear, the switch was 'open' and the car would not start. The stick had to be in neutral. Circuit was then closed and car would start. So to start the car, the sequence was the following - 1. Make sure the car was left in neutral the night before. 2. Make sure the valet switch was set to off. 3. Hit the remote 'start' button on the FOB. 4. Hit two buttons simultaneously to mimic depressing the clutch. If you didn't hit step 4 quick enough, the FOB would indicate so (It was a two way remote start) and you had to start the entire sequence over again once the system timed out (5-10 seconds). I also wired in double locking, window roll up, EWS bypass, etc. The car was a bitch to wire in. Hardest remote install ever. It took me 4 nights to wire it in and 1 morning cleaning up all the wires. Hope this helps. |
