Optimum Shift Indicator...

I can't believe that I have not seen any posts about this "feature" that will be trying to tell us when the best time is to change gears in order to maximize fuel efficiency...

I already know that this alone will make me select "sport" setting so that I do not have to deal with a BS shift light at 1500 RPM... I'm not getting this car to try to save fuel - period

So don't look at it. Or don't display it, that's what I did. (via idrive setup)

Does it say somewhere that optimal shift for the new M is at 1500 RPM? Which gear?

Where did you read this? The normal F3X cars have shift indicators in the form of arrows and a numerical value for the suggested gear, but no 'shift light'.

100% agree. I care about fuel savings in that it avoids gas guzzler tax and add to the happy hour fund but that is it

It's mandatory by law on new cars in Europe to have this feature. Not something BMW has put there by themselves...

What the law requires in NA I don't know.

This has been a feature in many BMW models for a long time. It's even standard in my e8x 1 series. Just a tiny arrow symbol in between the gauges that even can be easily deactivated. Nothing to worry about IMO.

The sooner these cars get delivered and we get some reviews the better- most new threads here now are really getting desperate.

I agree....

What's the next thread going to be ? My guess is debating whether the white in the roundel should be MW or AW. That's at least good for 3-4 pages until the first car gets delivered....
