VIR BMWCCA April 2014 New pavement
As some of you know; I am a slow learner and a particulary cautious when approaching high speeds.
This was the first time I had enough confidence to use MDM mode and perhaps will turn off DSC after much more practice. The last time I was at VIR was about a year & half ago; my best was a very slow time of 2.36 It may be a comination of MDM, new tires & the new pavement, but I became about 13 seconds faster compared to my last visit. I probably averaged about 2.26-2.30 and my best three times were 2.23.6, 2.23.8, and 2.24.0 All this made possible by a fellow member, going out of his way to loan me is racepads for the weekend; Thanks! Driving with a man pedal (clutch) I am 99% stock; with the exeption of MP exhaust, pads, SS brake lines, and Castrol SRF brake fluid. Still a lot to learn, but I am just happy to have a chance to drive at VIR.

I was the only E92 M3 with a sunroof- which I enjoyed during the parade laps!

Looks good! You did a good job of keeping your speed close to 100 on the uphill esses and you used your power on the straights. IMHO that's the key to getting a 2:25 instead of a 2:40, with essentially the same school line.
Last year I thought of something around 2:15 as the realistic best time you could expect an enthusiast driver to make in an E92 M3 on VIR Full on street tires. Not that I can turn in those times myself. But with the new width at 2-4 and Oak Tree I would not be surprised to see that drop 5-7 seconds this year and we may see the best B-groupers doing 2:05. (I don't think track pads are all that big a deal at VIR full because you have so much time to cool off between the 3 straight sections.) I had outs in B, C, and D this weekend. It was the usual fantastic job by Tarheel. There was a big turnout of newer drivers this time, and C was heavily stocked with people that were more like D drivers in other schools. It's good for you that JoElla moved you up at the end, because B was definitely the sweet spot. I've seen the same thing at other schools last summer -- D groups stocked completely with first-timers! And this spring, events being way over-subscribed at the D and C levels. It's a great sign for the enthusiast community. Maybe the clubs can start breaking even on HPDE weeknds again now, if all the instructor core has the time to turn out for multiple weekends. |

Yea, the climbing esses used the scare the poop out of me; i think now I'm much more comfortable through there and keeping my speed.

I love this track so much. I need to get back. It's been about 4 years. So weird to not see the Oak Tree there.
