My exhaust sounds like a turd. How about yours?!

08 135i 6 6spd

Cpe catless dps
Berk res mids
Berk street axleback.

3500 rpm and above the exhaust sounds great. Perfect sound at wot.
Cruising around town and anything low rpm it sounds like a fart can.

I put the stock axleback on for a while and it sounded good but very quiet.

Is there a happy medium?

I personally hate my berk street. My maddad sounded way better. I plan on having a shop put a round bullet muffler in place to liven up the tone.

If I lug my car around at sub 1500 rpms, my exhaust sounds a little VW Buggish. Otherwise, it pretty much sounds incredible. Try another combo until you get it right.

I am running into the same problem, I just got my berk res midpipes on after they were on backorder for three months and before with just the axle back I loved it, now it's more drone than I would normally want. I noticed the ebrake just vibrates like a toy all the time.
I'm a little worried that when I throw my AR dp's on it will also sound just like a turd...
I was thinking of going with the N55 mid to see if that quieted things down a bit, does anyone have any experience with this set up?

Catless DP's, catted mids and BMW PE.

I HATE cold start, f-ing disgusting but it sounds epic everywhere else. I especially love the turbo whistle that can be heard a long way away. Very exotic sounding setup although I do wonder sometimes about trying the stock muffler again.

Get a friend to drive your car while you watch as the car is very well sound insulated; you may just fall in love with what happens outside .

Guys how restrictive is the stock catback? What kind of gains does an aftermarket catback provide?

Very true. I should have thought of that sooner. I hated my evo x exhaust till I let my buddy drive it while I followed with my truck. It sounded amazing. I will be doing this today. Haha

Best way to find out what it really sounds like . I get my girlfriend to burn it up the road for me, plus I think it's quite funny seeing the reaction of guys being smoked by a girl.

I have AA DPs and AA signature axleback and it sounds awesome. Nice low tones and pops/ crackles when decelerating. Pretty loud but my first car was an 01 trans am ws6 with full exhaust so I can dig it. Cold start is pretty brutal though, I'll say that.

I have ar catless dp's, and then had a muffler shop cut out the three resonators on the mid pipe and put in a straight y-pipe. And to finish it off I have a Remus race axle back muffler. The cold start is insanely loud and raspy, and right around 2,000rpm it gets very raspy but above 2,000 rpm it is the most wicked sounding exhaust! It has that european exotic sound to it.

I had Berk resonated mids and a Magnaflow axleback and it was sex. No drone. Burbles at parking lot speed. And it wailed at WOT.

You wont get a lot of gains with an aftermarket exhaust system, BMW makes theirs fairly well from the factory so not a lot more horsepower can be created with aftermarket. Though if you get a full exhaust system, catback, midpipe, headers, downpipes you will get some decent gains and it will sound awesome. Full exhaust definitely isn't a good upgrade if youre looking for cheap $$/hp.

You don't need full exhaust to get good gains in our cars. Just getting catless downpipes will make a big difference especially if you already have a tune. A DP will be the best gain/cost ratio on our cars other than a tune.

Thats what i thought. I was thinking catless DP/Mid Pipe/Stock Catback

I dont want a loud exhaust

AA Catless, Stock Mid, Berk ceramic Race..... Sounds awesome.. All the time screams at WOT but also pretty tame at cruising with nice pops and gurgles
