Here's a pic of my front left tire:


And here's my front right tire:


On both tires, the sides are worn out much more than the center of the tire. Does this indicate that the tires are under-inflated? I try to maintain the recommended 39 psi.

The left tire looks really weird: Notice the much more worn inner side! At the corner, it is so worn out that you can see the white cord (arrow).

SA thinks this is due to mis-alignment. Do you agree? What's the best way to fix this?

Excessive Toe can certainly cause this. Is that a heavy spot on the first pic, about 3/4 up the inner edge? Might have some bends and wheel balance issues too.

Is it worn evenly around the periphery? If not, it is a bent wheel or bad balance. If worn evenly, probably wheel alignment.

It is worn very evenly along the circumference, so I don't think it's a bent wheel.

I guess I need to find a good alignment shop now.

Having destroyed tons of tires from out of spec toe, it's your toe.

This always happens to me, aggressive cornering does not help the fact either.

Every BMW I've owned loves to wear the inside of the tire, mostly due to camber. What you have looks like combo normal BMW tire wear + out of spec toe, + maybe a little bit of under inflation.

i don't know there's really not much camber to be had, in the fronts anyway, the stock setting from my alignment sheet says about 0 - 0.5 degrees for the fronts, and about -1.5 to -2.25 in the back. After installing camber plates i'm at -2.0 camber with zero toe in the front. After 8k miles, i have no noticeable inside wear, but the autocrossing i did before installing the plates has almost ruined the outside edge, i think toe is more the issue.

Toe is most definitely the issue. With proper toe specs, you can run negative camber without ill effects. I've gotten probably 25,000-30,000 miles out of some Hankook Ventus V12 with almost -4 degrees of camber, all because my toe was good.

I just had similar wear on my front right tire a few months back. It was due to bad alignment, but more importantly because of a bent front strut. This also caused the top strut mount to break the alignment pin and therefore throw off the camber. It turned out the inside of the tire was rubbing on the lower strut mount causing the even wear spot on the inside of the tire.

Inspect everything carefully the wear in the top pic is from it rubbing something.

As VMR mentioned (and he should know), it's certainly very bad toe wear. Get it kicked back into spec.
